Great Season Jags!!!!
Jags Give Valiant Effort in Playoffs
As the parent of a senior, it is a bittersweet moment. Our son's have given their best all season, and we are so proud of their efforts, but their high school football career has come to a close. I speak for many senior parents as I write this, as some of these boys have played since grade school in Pop Warner and have remained much more than just a team, they are brothers. Some words of wisdom to the underclassmen and parents; it goes by fast, enjoy every minute of it. Take to heart the wisdom and knowledge the coaching staff gives you, work hard, play hard, and you will reap the benefits. At times you will fail, but "no failure is ever fatal, and no success is ever final." Parents, get involved in this great program, you will glad you did and make some great friends along the way.
To our beloved seniors, we couldn't have asked for a better season, we have enjoyed watching you every Friday night. We remain so full of pride in what you have accomplished and wish all of you who are persuing a college football career, the best as this is only a stepping stone for the next level. For others, you will take your experiences from football and apply to your careers; the discipline, dedication and hard work will go far and won't go un-noticed. You will remain brothers (family) forever. Some of you will be in each others weddings, baptize each others babies, and will forever hold a place in each other's heart.
It has been a pleasure to watch all of you step on the field as boys and leave as young men. We thank you Jags & Coaching staff for another amazing season! We wish all of our graduating seniors our best! GO JAGS!
Jags Advance to Quarterfinals and knockout Horizon Huskies 28-17
The Jags have earned the rights to move on to the quarterfinals and will face the Brophy Broncos next Friday 11/14/14. Horizon scored early on with a 7-0 lead but then the Jags turned on the heat. Coach Hathcock was not pleased with the offense, but Taren Morrison and Justin Irby managed to score for Desert Ridge earning the team another week in the playoffs. Running backs Irby and Morrison still found plenty of room to run despite the offensive line's struggles. Morrison proceeded to score from six-yards to knot it at 7 before giving up a field goal to Horizon. Morrison scored another 6 on the ground, this time on a four-yard run, to put the Jaguars up 14-10 going into the half.Horizon scored another touchdown to take back the lead 17-14, but Desert Ridge answered back with a touchdown of their own a little over three minutes later. Down 21-17, Horizon drove and threatened to score, but Sneed fumbled at the Desert Ridge 48-yard line and Desert Ridge fell on the loose ball. The Jaguars scored on their next play, a 48-yard run from Irby, to take a 28-17 lead that sent the sideline into a frenzy.
Jags will face the Broncos this Friday and will be out for revenge for the Jags only loss this season. Scoring for tonight's game Taren Morrison 18 points, Justin Irby 6 points, Landon Whitlow 4 PAT's.
Desert Ridge Beats Mountain View Seals the Deal Division I, Section III Title
After a 47-36 Division I football victory over Mesa Mountain View on Thursday night that gave Desert Ridge the Section III championship, coach Jeremy Hathcock gathered the players in the end zone so parents could snap away for championship team photos. This might be the most depressed region championship team I've seen, Hathcock quipped as the players posed. There wasn't great joy in the way we played, but we were facing a resilient Mountain View team that was playing for its playoff life and trying to avoid seven losses for the first time in school history. Mountain View (3-7) was undersized but overachieved to stay in the game for the most part, taking advantage of Desert Ridge losing the big anchor in the middle of its defensive front, Tevita Taufa, in the second half of the game with an injury. Coach Hathcock knows pass defense has to improve, and the offense has to get better, even though Taren Morrison was in high gear with scoring runs of 17, 56 and 4 yards, and Alec Hathcock returned four weeks after partially tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and had a 10-yard touchdown run. "We're not a great team", coach Hathcock said. We're a team that plays really hard. Desert Ridge seeded #5 by the AIA will face # 12 ranked Horizon High School next Friday 11/7 @ 7pm hosted by Desert Ridge. The Jags are expected to pull out another victory and will possibly be facing the Brophy Broncos in the second round. Our boys will be looking for some revenge and will come out fighting to keep the championship dream alive. Scoring for tonights game were: Landon Whitlow 6 points field goal/PAT 6, Tavian Patrick 6, Justin Irby 6, Taren Morrison 18, Alec Hathcock 6.
Jaguars Advance Record to 8-1 Against Desert Mountain 52-14
Desert Ridge is keeping the ball rolling literally, by advancing their record to 8-1. over Desert Mountain Friday night. Offensively the Jags moved the ball and once they picked up momentum, there was no stopping them. Defense held Desert Mountain who only scored two touchdowns and did a phenomenal job. Sean Eremia picked off one lose ball and on the very next play Justin Irby ran that in for a touchdown. A few plays later Sean Eremia catches an interception and runs 25 yards and great scoring position before halftime. This victory has sealed the deal with a Division 1 Section 3 Championship for the third year in a row! This weeks scorers; Taren Morrison 18 points, Justin Irby 6 points, Tate Shumway 6 points, Jathan Tenorio 2 points , Landon Whitlow PAT 7 points and 3 point field goal. Next weeks final regular season game will be against the Mountain View Toros @ Desert Ridge and we will honor our Jag Seniors pre game @ 6pm on the field. GO JAGS!
JAG's Roll Over Red Mountain 49-23
Our Jags kept Red Mountain in check after the Mountain Lions crept up with a couple of touchdowns. It take long for the mighty offense to score multiple times to secure Desert Ridge a win last Friday night.Tate Shumway completed a 75 yard touchdown pass and stated that it was the longest throw he's completed this year. He completed 6 of 8 passes on the night for 187 yards and two scores.
We started out with the run and the run wasn't working, so we had to go to the pass, Shumway said. That (75-yard) one to Tavian it was only like a 30-yard throw, but he ran for a good distance. Not to be outdone, the Desert Ridge defense forced two turnovers, had three sacks and held Red Mountain to 2-of-10 on 3rd down conversions. That's the best we've ever played against Red Mountain, Coach Hathcock said. This is one of [our] best East Valley rivals, and tonight was definitely no exception. Scoring for tonights game: Tavian Patrick 12, Taren Morrison 24, Tate Shumway 6, Landon Whitlow 7 PAT
Next weeks opponent is Desert Mountain away 7pm on 10/24
Desert Ridge Runs Over Undefeated Skyline 31-14
The Desert Ridge Jags brought on the heat to the undefeated Skyline Coyotes, and all the trash talking during the week fueled the fire for the Jags last night. Desert Ridge played one of their best games of the season and showed the Coyotes that they will always be the Kings of Crismon!
"Especially for all the noise that was talked, our kids did a great job of composing themselves," Desert Ridge coach Jeremy Hathcock said. "Like (Skyline coach Angelo Paffumi) said he poked the bear and they had our full attention and it showed tonight." Mason Madrid had a phenomenal game stepping in for the injured Alec Hathcock and got the scoring started with a 19-yard run straight up the middle. Madrid, who had the game ending interception, scored on his first two touches, and started off the third quarter with a 10-yard score.
"They are hard to stop on offense," Paffumi said. "They've got a three headed monster on offense. One other kid was banged up and they just plugged another one in there." Scoring for tonights game were Mason Madrid (12 points) Taren Morrison (6 points), Justin Irby (6 points), Landon Whitlow (PAT's 4 , Field Goal 3). Next week the Jags take on the Red Mountain Lion's on the home field, GO JAGS!
Jags Dominate Over the Mesa Jackrabbits 56-0
The Jaguars on Thursday night started strong and never let up even well after the outcome was secure in a 56-0 victory over the Mesa High Jackrabbits. "Our kids woke up a little this week," Desert Ridge coach Jeremy Hathcock said. "We weren't ready to bring our 'A' game last Friday and today we did a good job."
The Jaguars rushed for 375 yards without a player with more than eight carries in racking up 550 total yards to move to 5-1. Jaguars scoring in tonights contest were Alec Hathcack (12), Taren Morrison (12), Justin Irby (6), Tavian Patrick (6 ), Stephen Gomez (6), Bryce Hyslop (6), Landon Whitlow field goal points (8) Next weeks game will be against Skyline @ Skyline @ 7pm. GO JAGS!
DRidge Falls Short with Loss to Brophy 35-40
Brophy team came a little hungry for a little payback after a bitter state playoff defeat last year at the hands of our Jaguars. The Jags suffer a loss to the Brophy Broncos at Phoenix College Friday night. "Give them credit, those kids, they came out to play, Desert Ridge coach Jeremy Hathcock said. They saw some things and what we do, and they exposed us a little bit."
It was a back and forth game most of the evening and it boiled down to the last minute of the game with the Jags in possession of the ball. A pass to Morrison, was dropped which sealed the deal for Brophy giving them a win on their homecoming night. Tate Shumway stated after the game, "I feel like I played one of the worst first halves in my life. We had missed opportunities. We weren't aligned, we were"t doing our assignment, and ended up losing, he said. A little thing built on another, and another and another. We got our heads down a little bit, and that's what killed us."
Scorers for Desert Ridge; Morrison, Taufa, Irby (3 TD's), Whitlow (5 extra points)
Next weeks opponent Mesa High School on Thursday 10/2/14 @ home.
Desert Ridge Slams the Millennium Tigers 43-0
Desert Ridge stands at 4-0 with a big win over the Millennium Tigers. It seems as though the media didn't give much attention to the Jags this week with no air time in the news, but that's okay. We will make the headlines next week as we face the Brophy Broncos Friday night @ Phoenix College. Don't underestimate this years Jaguar team, they are ready, focused, and have the talent and skill to win the State Championship! Tonights leading scorers were Alec Hathcock (2) TD's, Taren Morrison (2) TD's, Junior Darius Boyd (1) TD, and Mason Madrid swoops up a loose ball and scores. Landon Whitlow pulled through with 5 extra points.

Desert Ridge Defense Challenged by SDO
The final score doesn't reflect the battle that took place on the field for the Jags Friday night. Desert Ridge struggled to hold the Eagles until the final quarter when the Jags advanced themselves for the win. It was a back and forth game and the Eagles definitely came to play.
Coach Hathcock has some adjusting to do as they face Millennium next Friday night. Several of our Jags scored this evening; Sean Eremia, Justin Irby, Alec Hathcock (2), and Taren Morrison (2) and Landon Whitlow scored with his incredible kicking! Final score 49-35 Good Luck next week boys!

Desert Ridge Blows Out Gilbert 52-14
Desert Ridge knew going into Friday nights game that the Gilbert Tigers were hungry for a win, but that added fuel to the fire for the Jags. Six different players ran the ball in for touchdowns and they became unstoppable after halftime. Players Justin Irby, Taren Morrison, Steven Gomez (2 TD's), Alec Hathcock, and Jathan Tenorio all scored showing that Desert Ridge has truly become multifaceted and the competition better look out because you can never predict the arsenal that Desert Ridge will use on the field! "We finally wore them down. That was the thing," Desert Ridge coach Jeremy Hathcock said. "Eventually we started seeing holes as they were shifting and we just took what they gave us."
